Norwegian Cruise Line Pride Of America

The Pride of America is a part of Norwegian Cruise Line's efforts to offer comprehensive cruises of Hawaii. It was among the first cruise lines to capitalize on the Hawaiian market, which fit in with the company's overall philosophy of designed domestic cruises for largely American passengers. It commissioned the Pride of America as a ship that would sail exclusively in the Hawaiian islands.

The ship's path to Hawaii was fairly difficult. A storm swamped it while it was being built in 2004, causing delays and forcing Norwegian Cruise Lines to put another ship into commission in Hawaii. Unlike Norwegian Cruise Line's other Hawaiian ships, which feature tropical décor, the Pride of America reflects themes of U.S. culture and society. The main dining room includes a statue of Abraham Lincoln, and the opening foyer has the Seal of the United States on the floor. Because it is U.S. flagged, it doesn't need to stop at any foreign ports before returning to U.S. waters, which allows it to move through the Hawaiian islands at leisure. Its schedule consists solely of seven-day, round-trip voyages beginning and ending in Honolulu.
