Compared to other ports, not many ships make cruises from Jacksonville, Florida. This is due mainly to the resort image Florida cities like Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Tampa have. However, Jacksonville has plenty of things to do despite the somewhat lacking interest of major cruise lines.
Jacksonville is a prime example of urban sprawl. After landing at the Jacksonville International Airport, located 12 miles from the Port of Jacksonville, travelers should rent a car if they wish to see Jacksonville's sights. The city is very spread out, so this can make getting around easier. Tourists will want to check whether the Jacksonville Landing is holding a festival and see whether the nightlife in The Landing has begun to appear. Spending time on Jacksonville's beach is another activity many travelers enjoy. Aside from parking, lying on the beach is free. As in any city, Jacksonville has a number of hotels where travelers can stay until they depart on their vacations.
American Canadian offers luxury cruises up and down Eastern United States and Canada. For the most part, though, Carnival offers most of the cruises from Jacksonville, Florida. Carnival's cruise ships run equally to the Caribbean and the Bahamas. The western area of the Caribbean, however, is not well covered by Carnival.
Direct Line Cruises is a discount luxury-cruise reservation agency. It offers discounts on reservations made for cruises from Jacksonville.
